Although there are questions about the validity of handwriting analysis, it is widely used in society and for many different purposes. It has also raised issues of personal privacy invasion and an individual does have to give permission for analysis of their handwriting in most cases.
A recent addition to the interview process within many companies is to request a writing sample and consent from an applicant in order to get an analysis of the individual and to see if they fit the position. This is of course used alongside background checks, employment history and interview process, it is never used as a pure selection tool for employees.
It is sometimes used for psychological analysis within relationships as methods to greater understanding the other individuals and how to improve compatibility in their professional and personal relationships. Similar to this is the use within marital compatibility. Again this is a tool to greater understanding of each other and often examines sexual expression and response. Sometimes this method is employed within arranged marriages to greater secure the success of the union.
Medical graphology is a highly controversial area though some doctors do believe that by studying handwriting of the patient it can show issues in the nervous system that need to be addressed. Graphology has also been known to be used in jury screening, forensic document examination and even divination – telling the future of the individual! Probably one of the most well known uses thanks to the media and movies is the use of graphology as a profiling tool in the search for a culprit of a crime. Forensic psychologists are standard within the differing crime prevention bureaus and graphology has now become one of their standard tools in speculation of personalities of killers and identifying suspects as the culprits of crimes. |
